About Elderwood Farms
Located in Millington, Tennessee, just north of Memphis, Elderwood Farms is a family-run farm best known for our nationally recognized alpaca breeding program. While alpacas have certainly taken center stage over the years, they share the farm with Pembroke Welsh Corgis and a lively collection of other beloved animals.
Across every species, our focus remains the same: healthy, well-cared-for animals, thoughtful breeding, and responsible practices.
Our Story
Our alpaca journey began in 2012, when we met and purchased our first alpaca, Clio the Muse. What started with a few animals, a lot of curiosity, and a love for the lifestyle steadily grew into a breeding program built on education, intentional genetic selection, and continual improvement.
Today, Elderwood Farms breeds, shows, and sells quality alpacas while remaining actively involved in the alpaca community through mentorship, education, events, and support for both new and established owners.
More than a decade later, the same curiosity that started it all continues to drive us forward — always learning, always evaluating, and always working toward the next generation.
Our Herd & Breeding Program
Our breeding program is focused on the complete alpaca — combining fleece quality, conformation, pedigree, production, and long-term consistency.
Elderwood Farms has become especially known for our Appaloosa and Harlequin alpacas and is home to one of the Southeast’s largest and most dedicated Appaloosa and Harlequin breeding programs. Our herd also includes Pinto and other uniquely patterned alpacas, as well as an accomplished foundation of solid-colored animals.
While we have a special love for spots, pattern has never been our only measure of quality. Our solid-colored alpacas have competed successfully at the national level and remain an important part of both our foundation and our future.
We are also proud to offer one of the region’s most diverse and accomplished herdsire rows, including champion and champion-producing males selected to contribute across color, fleece, conformation, and phenotype.
Quality comes first — in every color.
Alpacas for Sale
Whether you’re purchasing your first alpacas or expanding an established breeding program, our goal is to help you find animals that genuinely fit what you’re trying to accomplish.
Throughout the year, Elderwood Farms may offer:
- Foundation and breeding females
- Show and breeding prospects
- Breeding males
- Fiber and companion alpacas
- Solid-colored alpacas
- Appaloosa, Harlequin, Pinto, and other uniquely patterned alpacas
We’re happy to discuss your goals, pedigrees, breeding strategies, and the strengths of individual animals rather than simply point you toward an alpaca for sale.
Flexible financing options are available in many situations, and our relationship with buyers doesn’t end when an alpaca leaves Elderwood Farms. Ongoing mentorship and support are an important part of what we offer.
More Than Alpacas
Although alpacas have become the heart of our breeding program, Elderwood has always been a farm with a little bit of everything.
Our extended farm family includes Pembroke Welsh Corgis, donkeys, a miniature cow, pigs, chickens, ducks, geese, peafowl, guineas, cats, and more. They are part of the personality of Elderwood Farms and a reminder that this all began with something much simpler than ribbons or rankings — a genuine love of animals and farm life.
From time to time, we also share that experience through educational opportunities, special events, and other farm activities.
Our Commitment
From transparent breeding practices and high-quality animal care to education, mentorship, and ongoing support, Elderwood Farms is committed to contributing positively to the alpaca community.
We believe in doing things the right way, sharing what we know, continuing to learn, and helping others succeed alongside us.
That philosophy has also produced consistent results in the show ring. Elderwood Farms has finished #1 in AOA’s small-farm high-point standings for two consecutive years, based on points earned through competition.
We’re incredibly proud of that recognition, but even more proud of what it represents: the consistency of our animals, the progress of our breeding program, and years of intentional work toward continual improvement.
